When Prince of Persia: Warrior Within launched in 2004, it redefined action-adventure games with its darker tone and intense combat. However, while the gameplay remains legendary, the UI has aged. Clunky menus, hard-to-read HUD elements, and outdated navigation create unnecessary friction for modern players. This redesign aims to modernize the UI while preserving the game’s brutal, immersive aesthetic. How can we make the UI more readable, seamless, and visually aligned with modern standards?

Spending hours revisiting Warrior Within, I noticed several pain points: A cluttered HUD: The health bar, sand meter, and enemy indicators blend too much into the dark background. Menus that feel outdated: The navigation is text-heavy, requiring too many clicks to access essential options.

User Research & Comparative Analysis

To validate these issues, I observed gameplay footage and spoke with Prince of Persia fans. Common frustrations included: Difficulty tracking health and sand meter during intense battles. Menus that disrupt immersion instead of enhancing the experience. I also compared Warrior Within's UI with modern action games like God of War (2018) and Resident evil village etc, of which excel in clean, immersive UI that doesn’t get in the way of gameplay.

✅ Modernization: The UI should align with today’s usability standards without feeling out of place.

Enemy health indicators now appear at the top of the screen, ensuring a consistent reference point. A cleaner, dynamic approach where unnecessary elements fade when not needed.

Redesigning Warrior Within’s UI was a passion project. This game shaped my love for action-adventure titles, and giving it a UI that matches its incredible gameplay felt like a personal mission.
